Serious — a van that rolls away can cause a crash or injure someone; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but set the parking brake every time you park until the repair is done.

What's wrong, in plain English

Debris inside the transmission can stop the parking latch from fully locking when you put the van in Park. If it is only partly engaged, the van can roll away after you walk away from it. This affects certain Ram ProMaster vans with the 62TE transmission. A dealer will update the transmission software and inspect the transmission, replacing it or parts inside it if needed, at no cost to you. Owner letters were mailed in June 2023.

Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:INTERNAL:PARK PAWL
Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Ram ProMaster vehicles equipped with a 62TE transmission. The park pawl may not fully engage the park gear due to debris inside the transmission.
Safety risk: A partially engaged park pawl can result in a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software, and inspect and replace, as necessary, the transmission or components within the transmission, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 22, 2023. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 44A.
