Toyota Tundra label lists wrong load carrying capacity

NHTSA campaign 23V757000 · Reported 2023-11-09 · Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC

low How serious is it? About this label

An overloaded vehicle increases the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

There is a sticker on your Tundra that tells you how much weight the truck can safely carry once passengers and cargo are added up. On these trucks that sticker shows the wrong number. If you trust it and load up to that figure, you could end up carrying more weight than the truck and its tires are built to handle. Nothing is mechanically broken. The distributor will mail you a corrected sticker to put in place of the wrong one.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Tundra is covered by campaign 23V757000 (Southeast Toyota's number SET23B).
2. Watch your mail for the free replacement label, or call Southeast Toyota customer service at 1-866-405-4226 if it has not arrived.
3. Apply the new label over the old one, and avoid heavy loads until you have the correct figure.
