Serious — unexpected movement with nobody controlling the vehicle can cause a crash; Toyota does not say to stop driving, but until it is fixed keep your foot on the brake whenever the vehicle is in neutral.

What's wrong, in plain English

When the vehicle is in neutral and no one is pressing the brake pedal, it may move on its own unexpectedly. The vehicle can creep or roll when you expect it to sit still, and that can lead to it hitting something or someone nearby. There is no part to replace: the dealer reloads the software in the computer that controls the transmission, free of charge. Toyota's notice covers the Lexus LX600 under this same campaign as well.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is affected. 2. Book the software update with your Toyota or Lexus dealer, or call 1-800-331-4331 (recall numbers 24TA02 and 24LA02). 3. The update is free and no parts are needed, so it is usually a short visit.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Lexus LX600, and 2023-2024 Sequoia Hybrid vehicles. Unexpected vehicle movement may occur when the vehicle is in neutral and the brakes are not applied.

Remedy
Dealers will update the transmission control ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 8, 2024. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TA02 and 24LA02.
