A head restraint bracket that is insufficiently welded may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The head restraints, meaning the padded headrests, on the middle and right-hand seats in the second row may sit in brackets that were not welded well enough at the factory. A weak bracket may not hold a passenger's head in place during a crash, which can lead to a worse head or neck injury for whoever is sitting there. It also falls short of a federal safety rule for head restraints. Toyota dealers will replace the larger rear seat back section at no charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Camry is covered by recall 24TB04 or 24TA04.
2. Schedule the free rear seat back replacement with your Toyota dealer.
3. Call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 if you did not receive the letter mailed in April 2024.

The second-row center and right-side seats may have insufficiently welded head restraint brackets. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 202, "Head Restraints."

Remedy
Dealers will replace the 60% rear seat-back frame sub-assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 19, 2024. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TB04 and 24TA04.
