The head restraints, meaning the padded headrests, on the middle and right-hand seats in the second row may sit in brackets that were not welded well enough at the factory. A weak bracket may not hold a passenger's head in place during a crash, which can lead to a worse head or neck injury for whoever is sitting there. It also falls short of a federal safety rule for head restraints. Toyota dealers will replace the larger rear seat back section at no charge.
These Toyota and Lexus vehicles have a sensor in the front passenger seat that tells the airbag system whether someone is sitting there. A short circuit can develop inside that sensor. If it does, the front passenger airbag may not inflate during a crash, so whoever is riding in that seat could be hurt worse than they otherwise would be. The dealer will inspect the sensor and replace it if needed, free of charge. Owner letters are being mailed in stages.
The nuts that hold the wheels on these Camry and Camry Hybrid cars may not be tight enough. A loose wheel can work its way off while you are driving, which can make you lose control of the car. Toyota says not to drive these vehicles at all until they are fixed. A dealer will check and tighten every lug nut, and replace any parts that were damaged, at no cost to you.

When that happens you suddenly lose the power help behind the pedal, so braking takes much more effort from your foot and the car needs more room to stop. That can lead to a crash. The car uses that reading to decide how the passenger airbag and the knee airbag should fire. Because the setting is off, those airbags may not go off the way they should in a crash, so a front passenger could be hurt worse. Toyota dealers will reset the sensor for free.
These Toyotas came with factory-installed floor mats, and the sticker that lists how much weight the vehicle can safely carry with those mats in place may show the wrong numbers. If you go by that sticker when loading people and cargo, you could put more weight in the vehicle than it is built to handle. An overloaded vehicle is harder to control. The fix is a corrected sticker, provided free, that you place over the wrong one.

Some 2018 Toyota Camry cars built with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine left the factory with pistons that are slightly too big. Pistons are the parts that move up and down inside the engine to make power. When they are the wrong size, the engine can shut off on its own while you are driving. Your dealer will check the date codes stamped on the pistons, and if yours came from the bad batch, the whole engine gets replaced at no cost.
On some V6 Camrys, the metal pipes that carry gasoline to the engine may not have been joined tightly to the fuel hoses under the hood. A loose connection can let gasoline leak out. Gasoline that leaks near anything hot or sparking can catch fire. The dealer will check that the fuel pipes are connected correctly and fix any that are not, at no cost to you.
