Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon front wheel bolts may break

NHTSA campaign 24V237000 · Reported 2024-03-28 · General Motors, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — broken bolts can cause you to lose control and crash; there is no order to stop driving, but have it fixed quickly and stop driving if you feel a wobble or hear knocking up front.

What's wrong, in plain English

The bolts that hold each front wheel hub in place may have been tightened too hard during assembly, which can damage them. Damaged bolts can work loose or break while you are driving. If that happens, the wheel hub is no longer held tight and you can lose control of the truck. Clunking, knocking, or a wobble from the front end are warning signs. The dealer will replace the front hub bolts on both sides at no cost.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your truck is affected.
2. Contact your Chevrolet dealer at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782 and mention recall N232431480.
3. Have both front wheel hub bolts replaced — the repair is free.
