Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon loose seat belt bolts

NHTSA campaign 24V703000 · Reported 2024-09-19 · General Motors, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

A loose seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

A bolt that holds a front seat belt buckle onto the seat may not have been tightened enough at the factory. It could be the left seat, the right seat, or both. A buckle that is not held down tightly may not hold a person in place properly during a crash, which can mean worse injuries. The repair is quick and simple: dealers tighten the buckle bolts on both front seats to the correct setting.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Colorado or Canyon is included.
2. Contact your dealer, or call Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782 (recall N242453720).
3. Have both front seat belt buckle bolts tightened — it is free and only takes a short visit.
