Chevrolet wheel recalls: loose lug nuts and broken hub bolts
All three Chevrolet wheel recalls trace back to the hardware that holds a wheel to the hub, and all three start with an assembly mistake rather than wear. Two involve front wheel hub bolts: the 2023 Colorado (recalled with the GMC Canyon) had bolts over-tightened and damaged during installation, while 2025-2026 Tahoe and Suburban 1500 models ordered with 24-inch wheels — alongside the Escalade and Yukon — received incorrect bolts that can loosen or deform. The oldest notice covers Isuzu-built Chevrolet 4500HD, 5500HD and 5500XD medium-duty trucks, whose rear outer wheel lug nuts may not have been properly tightened. Front hub bolts on GM's newest full-size SUVs are the clear repeat pattern.
Warning signs to watch for
- A wobble you can feel through the front of the vehicle, or knocking from the front end — the Colorado notice says stop driving if either appears
- Rear outer wheel lug nuts that look or feel loose on a 4500HD, 5500HD or 5500XD truck
- The 5500HD notice warns a rear wheel can separate with no warning at all, so feeling nothing does not mean your truck is fine
- None of the three notices mentions a dashboard warning light for this problem
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of the three recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside order, so you may keep driving while you arrange the repair — but none is a wait-until-next-service item either. The Chevrolet 5500HD notice warns that a separating rear wheel can cause a crash with no warning, so have the lug nuts checked as soon as possible. On the 2023 Colorado, stop driving if you feel a wobble or hear knocking up front. For the 24-inch-wheel SUVs, book the free repair as soon as your dealer can fit you in.
What the free repair involves
These are mechanical repairs, not software, and none is delivered over the air. Isuzu dealers inspect the rear outer wheel lug nuts on the medium-duty Chevrolet trucks and tighten or replace them as necessary. GM dealers replace both the left and right front wheel hub bolts on the 2023 Colorado and Canyon, and again on the 24-inch-wheel Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade and Yukon. All of it is free of charge.

Common questions
My Tahoe doesn't have 24-inch wheels. Am I affected?
The 2026 recall covers 2025-2026 Suburban 1500 and Tahoe models built with 24-inch wheels. If yours has a different wheel size it falls outside that population, but confirm with your VIN through Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or your dealer.
How can I tell if my Colorado's hub bolts were over-tightened?
You can't see it from outside — the damage happened during installation at the factory. The notice gives only one owner-noticeable sign: a wobble or knocking from the front. If that happens, stop driving and have the truck towed in.
Why does an Isuzu recall cover my Chevrolet 5500HD?
Isuzu Technical Center of America builds those medium-duty trucks and issued the recall, which also covers NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR and NRR models. Isuzu dealers perform the free lug nut inspection; that recall began December 20, 2019.
