Polestar 2 backup camera image may not appear

NHTSA campaign 24V477000 · Reported 2024-06-26 · Polestar Automotive USA, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

This is a visibility problem rather than a mechanical failure, and the notice places no driving restriction, but back up slowly and use your mirrors and a look over your shoulder until the update is installed.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software problem in the car's infotainment system — the large center screen — can stop the backup camera picture from showing up. Without that picture, you cannot see what is directly behind the car when reversing, which makes it easier to hit something or someone. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility rule. Polestar has already released a free software update that is sent to the car over the air, so no dealer visit is needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is included.
2. Make sure your car is connected and accepts the over-the-air software update — it is free.
3. If the update does not arrive or the camera still fails, call Polestar at 1-800-806-2504 (recall RP1016).
