Polestar 2 can lose braking while coasting downhill

Losing braking is very serious; the notice does not tell you to park the car, but you should turn off One Pedal Drive right away and keep it off until the update is installed.

What's wrong, in plain English

In certain situations, while the car is coasting down a hill with "One Pedal Drive" switched on, the brakes can stop working. One Pedal Drive is the setting that slows the car down when you lift your foot off the accelerator instead of pressing the brake pedal. Polestar says owners should not use One Pedal Drive until the car has been fixed. The fix is a free software update sent to the car over the air.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is covered by recall 25V409000, and turn off "One Pedal Drive" now.
2. Accept the free over-the-air software update when the car offers it.
3. If the update has not arrived, contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 (recall RP1061) or your dealer — the repair is free.

Summary
Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. (Polestar) is recalling certain 2021 and 2024 Polestar 2 vehicles. In certain driving scenarios while coasting down a hill and using "One Pedal Drive," the vehicle may lose brake function.
Safety risk
A loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to use "One Pedal Drive" until the repair has been completed. Polestar has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 18, 2025. Owners may contact Polestar's customer service at 1-800-806-2504. Polestar's number for this recall is RP1061.
