Volvo VNL trucks may have delayed brake response

NHTSA campaign 25V102000 · Reported 2025-02-18 · Volvo Trucks North America

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — the notice does not order the truck parked, but slower braking means a longer stopping distance and a real risk of a crash, so leave extra following room until it is repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2023-2025 Volvo VNL and new VN trucks, the air brakes can take longer to start working than they should after you press the pedal. The delay is long enough that the truck fails the federal air brake standard. Even a short lag adds distance before the truck comes to a full stop. Volvo dealers will install a new air line setup, called a pneumatic circuit, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is covered (Volvo Trucks' number is RVXX2502).
2. Call your Volvo Trucks dealer to schedule the fix, or contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 800-528-6586; letters were mailed March 11, 2025.
3. Have the new pneumatic circuit installed — the repair is free.
