Certain 2026-2027 Volvo VNL and VNR trucks may have a center roof marker light that does not light up. Marker lights are the small lamps across the top of the cab that show other drivers how tall and wide the truck is, especially at night or in bad weather. With one out, the truck is harder to see and judge, and it does not meet the federal lighting rule. Dealers will replace the center roof marker light free of charge.
On these Volvo trucks, the bolts joining the steering arm to the steering knuckle — the parts that turn the front wheels when you turn the wheel — may not have been tightened enough at the factory. If those fasteners are loose, the steering arm can move when it should not, and the driver can lose steering control of the truck. A dealer will check the fasteners and tighten any that are not right.
The nuts holding the wheels on these trucks can work loose, and a wheel can come off entirely. A wheel coming off can make you lose control of the truck, and the loose wheel itself becomes a danger to other people on the road. Volvo says not to drive these trucks until they are repaired. A dealer will check the wheel and hub surfaces, clean off any leftover masking material, and replace worn parts at no cost.

On these Volvo trucks, the electrical connectors on the rear brake units may be missing a protective cover. Without it, the connectors can short out. If that happens, the anti-lock brakes and the electronic stability control stop working, so the wheels can lock up in hard braking and the truck becomes harder to keep straight. Your dealer will inspect those connectors, install a protective cover, and replace the rear brake units if they need it.
Certain Volvo VNL and VNR trucks have turn signals that may not work the way they should. The turn signal is how you tell drivers around you that you are about to turn or change lanes. If it does not come on properly, other drivers get no warning about what you are doing, which can lead to a crash. Because of this, the trucks do not meet the federal safety rule for lamps and signals. A dealer will reprogram the turn signal software.
On some 2025-2026 Volvo VNL trucks, the instrument panel can quit while you are driving. If it goes out, you lose the gauges and warning lights, including your speedometer, so you cannot see how fast you are going or whether the truck is reporting a problem. Federal safety rules require these displays to keep working. Volvo Trucks dealers will replace the instrument cluster at no cost to you. Owner letters for this recall went out in May 2026.
On some 2025-2026 Volvo VNL trucks, the service brakes can take longer than they should to let go after you come off the pedal. That means the brakes may stay on for a moment when you expect the truck to start moving again. Federal air brake rules set a limit on how long that release can take, and these trucks do not meet it. Dealers will add an extra brake valve and fittings to the truck's air lines, free of charge.
Certain Volvo VNL trucks built without auxiliary parking brakes may not stay put when parked. When the truck is in weight bias mode, too little of its weight sits on the axle that carries the parking brake, so the brake does not have enough grip to hold the truck. The truck can roll away on its own. Dealers will replace the brake chambers so the parking brake holds properly. Volvo mailed owner letters in May 2026.
These Volvo VNL trucks carry load lock bars, the bars used to brace cargo, in clamps mounted on the back of the cab. Those clamps can loosen over time, which leaves the bars unsecured. A bar that works its way free can fall from the truck onto the road, where other drivers may hit it or swerve to avoid it, and cargo can be lost as well. A dealer replaces the clamps with new ones at no charge.
These trucks have headlights that are supposed to switch from high beam down to low beam on their own when another vehicle comes toward you. On the affected trucks that automatic dimming may not happen, so the bright high beams can stay on and shine into the eyes of oncoming drivers. Volvo will send a software update over the air that turns the automatic high-beam feature off for now, at no cost.
On certain 2026 Volvo VNL trucks, the marker lights in the middle of the roof may not light up at all. These are the small lights that let other drivers see how wide and how tall your truck is, especially at night or in bad weather. With them dark, other drivers may not notice the truck in time. The trucks do not meet the federal rule for lamps. A dealer replaces the center roof marker light.
On some 2025-2026 new Volvo VN trucks, a body control module was not built correctly. When a trailer is hooked up, the trailer's lights may fail to come on. That means the tail lights and turn signals at the back of the trailer can stay dark, so drivers behind you may not see the trailer clearly or know when you are about to turn. Dealers will replace the module that feeds power and signals to the trailer lights.
Some 2026 Volvo VN trucks left the factory with the cable inside the interior door handle hooked up wrong. When that happens, pulling the inside handle will not open the door. Anyone in the cab could be stuck, which matters most after a crash or any time someone needs to get out quickly. The dealer replaces the door latch cable and the small clip that holds it, free of charge. Owner letters went out November 11, 2025.
These Volvo trucks have a feature that helps steer the truck back straight if the rear starts to slide out. On certain 2025-2026 New VN trucks, that feature can act up on its own and move the steering when you don't want it to, so you could lose control of where the truck is pointed. Volvo's fix is to shut the feature off, either by a wireless software update sent to the truck or by a dealer.
Inside the engine of these Volvo trucks, a gear called the idler gear is held in place by bolts on a bracket. Those bolts may not have been tightened properly. If they loosen, the gear can come away from the engine and tear up parts inside it. The engine can then stall, leaving you without power in traffic. Dealers will inspect the truck and replace the turbo compound unit if needed, at no cost to you.
On certain 2023-2025 Volvo VNL and new VN trucks, the air brakes can take longer to start working than they should after you press the pedal. The delay is long enough that the truck fails the federal air brake standard. Even a short lag adds distance before the truck comes to a full stop. Volvo dealers will install a new air line setup, called a pneumatic circuit, free of charge.
