Volvo VNL and related trucks may have loose steering bolts

NHTSA campaign 26V444000 · Reported 2026-07-09 · Volvo Trucks North America

high How serious is it? About this label

Losing steering control of a heavy truck is about as serious as it gets; Volvo does not tell owners to park the truck, but get it inspected as soon as you can.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these Volvo trucks, the bolts joining the steering arm to the steering knuckle — the parts that turn the front wheels when you turn the wheel — may not have been tightened enough at the factory. If those fasteners are loose, the steering arm can move when it should not, and the driver can lose steering control of the truck. A dealer will check the fasteners and tighten any that are not right.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is included (VINs became searchable July 16, 2026).
2. Call your Volvo Trucks dealer or Volvo Trucks customer service at 800-528-6586 and give them recall number RVXX2607.
3. Have the steering fasteners inspected and tightened — the work is free; letters were mailed July 27, 2026.
