Losing brake fluid can reduce your braking and raise the risk of a crash, so this is serious; the notice does not tell you to stop driving, but get it fixed promptly and watch for a soft or sinking brake pedal.

What's wrong, in plain English

The rear brakes on some 2021 Rogues were built with a small part missing inside the brake caliper — the piece that holds a rubber seal in place. Without it, the seal can shift and brake fluid can leak out. Brake fluid is what makes the brakes work, so losing it can leave you with weak brakes and a longer stopping distance. Cars inspected under the earlier recall may still need this repair.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Rogue is covered.
2. Contact your Nissan dealer about recall PC933, or call Nissan at 1-800-867-7669 — mention it if your car was already inspected under the earlier 2021 recall.
3. Have both rear brake calipers replaced at no charge to you.

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021 Rogue vehicles. The left and/or right rear brake caliper assemblies may be missing an internal bushing, allowing the O-ring seal to move and brake fluid to leak.
Safety risk: A loss of brake fluid may reduce braking performance, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the left and right rear brake calipers, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 12, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC933. The two vehicles that were previously inspected under recall 21V-286 and did not receive a brake caliper replacement will need to have the new remedy completed.
