The notice does not tell owners to stop driving and the car itself works normally, but people around you in parking lots and driveways may not hear you coming, so drive slowly and watch for pedestrians.

What's wrong, in plain English

Electric cars are very quiet, so they are required to make an artificial sound at low speeds to warn people nearby. On certain 2024 Equinox EVs, that sound does not get loud enough when the car starts moving compared with when it is sitting still. Someone walking near the car, especially a person who cannot see it coming, may not realize it is pulling away. The fix is a software update, done at a dealer or sent to the car.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Equinox EV is covered.
2. Watch for the over-the-air update on the car's screen, or contact a Chevrolet dealer or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (recall N252527170).
3. Have the software update installed; it is free either way.

Summary
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV vehicles. The pedestrian alert sound system may not produce a sufficient change in volume between the vehicle being stopped and moving at low speeds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles."
Safety risk
A vehicle that fails to make sufficient sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
The vehicle's body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 17, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N252527170.
