What's wrong, in plain English

These all-wheel-drive electric SUVs left the factory with the wrong software in the computer that controls the brakes. Because of that error, the adaptive cruise control, which is supposed to slow the vehicle down automatically when traffic ahead slows, may not apply the brakes when you expect it to. If you are relying on cruise control to slow you down, the vehicle may keep going instead, leaving you to brake yourself.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered. 2. Contact a Chevrolet dealer for the software update, or call Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (recall N242481530). 3. The dealer reprograms the brake control module free of charge.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV all-wheel drive electric vehicles. The adaptive cruise control may fail to engage the brakes as expected, due to incorrect brake module software.
Safety risk
A vehicle that does not automatically brake as expected increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the software calibration in the brake system control module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 13, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N242481530.
