Volvo VNL truck brakes may release too slowly

NHTSA campaign 26V186000 · Reported 2026-03-25 · Volvo Trucks North America

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderately serious — a delayed brake release can increase crash risk, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so continue with care and get the repair scheduled.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2025-2026 Volvo VNL trucks, the service brakes can take longer than they should to let go after you come off the pedal. That means the brakes may stay on for a moment when you expect the truck to start moving again. Federal air brake rules set a limit on how long that release can take, and these trucks do not meet it. Dealers will add an extra brake valve and fittings to the truck's air lines, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected.
2. Call your Volvo Trucks dealer, or Volvo Trucks at 800-528-6586 (recall RVXX2602), to book the work.
3. Have the extra brake valve and fittings installed at no charge.
