Tesla Cybertruck wheel studs can crack and break off

NHTSA campaign 26V255000 · Reported 2026-04-22 · Tesla, Inc.

critical How serious is it? About this label

Losing wheel studs can mean a sudden loss of control and a crash; the notice does not tell owners to park the truck, but this should be repaired as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2024-2026 Tesla Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels can develop cracks around the holes in the brake rotor where the wheel studs sit. A stud can then break away from the hub. The studs are what hold your wheel on, so if one or more separate you could lose control of the truck. Tesla Service will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts at no charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Cybertruck is covered.
2. Book a service appointment through the Tesla app, or call Tesla at 1-877-798-3752 (recall SB-26-33-003).
3. Have the rotors, hubs, and lug nuts replaced free of charge, and report any clunking or vibration from a wheel right away.
