On some 2024 Tesla Cybertrucks, the backup camera picture takes too long to appear on the screen after you shift into reverse. For those first moments you're backing up, you can't see what's behind the truck on the display, which is exactly when you need it — a child, a pet, or a low obstacle could be back there. Tesla has already fixed this with a free software update, so the repair arrives over the internet rather than at a dealer.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Cybertruck is covered.
2. Make sure your truck is connected to Wi-Fi and install any pending software update — it's free.
3. If the camera still lags, call Tesla at 1-877-798-3752 and reference SB-24-00-016.

Summary: Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. The rearview camera image may be delayed after shifting into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Safety risk: A delayed rearview image reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Tesla released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 25, 2024. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-24-00-016. (over-the-air software update)
