Your car has sensors in the front passenger seat that tell the airbag system whether someone is sitting there. A small electrical part inside those sensors can crack and short out. If that happens, the front passenger airbag may not go off in a crash, leaving whoever is riding in that seat without the protection the airbag is supposed to provide. Subaru dealers will replace the sensors in the front passenger seat at no charge to you.
A weld on a switch that tells the car which gear you are in was not done well enough, so water can seep inside and break it. When that switch fails, your reversing lights may not come on and the backup camera screen may go blank. That makes it easy to miss someone or something behind you while backing up. A dealer will replace the switch free of charge.

On certain 2023 Subaru Outback, Legacy, Ascent and Impreza vehicles, the bolts holding the middle support of the driveshaft can work loose. The driveshaft is the spinning shaft under the car that sends engine power toward the wheels. If those bolts loosen, the front end of the shaft can come apart from the car while you are driving. A driveshaft that separates underneath a moving vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

The computer that controls your automatic transmission has a software mistake. It can let the transmission start pulling before the internal drive chain is fully clamped in place. The chain can then slip and break, and the vehicle can suddenly lose power to the wheels while you are driving. Dealers will reload the correct software, check the stored data for signs of slipping, and look at the chain guide. If there is damage, they replace the transmission.

The low-pressure fuel pump sits inside the gas tank and pushes fuel toward the engine. In these vehicles that pump can fail. If it quits, the engine can stall and shut off while you are driving, and you would lose engine power with little warning. A stall in traffic, at highway speed, or in an intersection can easily lead to a crash. The dealer replaces the pump inside the tank with a new one.

A software update Subaru sent to certain 2020 Legacy and Outback models in August 2020 may have timed out before it finished installing, which scrambled the data in the system. As a result, the backup camera picture can shut off now and then while you are reversing, leaving you without a view of what is behind you. Subaru says these vehicles do not meet the federal rear-visibility rule. Dealers will reload the software and, if that is not enough, replace the control module.

The pump that sends gasoline from the tank to the engine can stop working. If it quits, the engine shuts off while you are driving and the car will not start again. That can leave you stopped in traffic or on the side of a highway with no warning and no way to move. Subaru dealers will replace the low pressure fuel pump at no charge to you.

On some 2020 Subaru Outback and Legacy vehicles, a bolt holding the bracket that supports the brake pedal may be missing or not tightened enough. Over time, the area where the brake pedal is mounted can bend out of shape. If that happens, pressing the pedal does not work the brakes as well as it should, so the car may take longer to stop. Dealers will check the bracket hardware and replace the hardware or the whole brake pedal assembly.

Some spot welds on a duct below the cowl panel — the metal panel at the base of the windshield — may not have been applied properly at the factory. Those welds are part of what gives the car's body its strength. With weak welds, the body may not hold up as well in a crash, so people inside could be hurt more badly than they otherwise would be. Subaru dealers will inspect the car and repair it, or buy it back, at no cost.

A software glitch can stop the audio and display screen from starting up properly. When that happens the screen stays blank, including the backup camera picture that is supposed to appear when you shift into reverse. Without that view you cannot see a child, a pet, or an object behind the car, which makes backing into something more likely.
