Dodge Durango rear spoiler recalls: has yours been fixed yet?
All three Dodge structure recalls are the same defect on the same vehicle, widened three times. The Durango's rear spoiler may not be aligned properly with the roof, so ordinary liftgate use damages it and it can eventually come loose. FCA first recalled 2021 Durangos in October 2021, expanded to 2021-2022 in February 2023, and expanded again in August 2026 to cover 2021-2023 Durangos, with letters expected to begin September 10, 2026. No other Dodge model and no other structural problem appears in this group. The remedy grew too: the first two recalls inspected and replaced the spoiler, while the 2026 version also repairs the spoiler and aligns the liftgate — an acknowledgement that alignment, not the part alone, is the root cause.
Warning signs to watch for
- A visible gap or uneven fit between the rear spoiler and the roof
- Cracked, chipped or damaged spoiler edges, especially where the liftgate meets it
- A spoiler that feels loose, shifts, or rattles when you open and close the liftgate
- No dashboard light or in-car warning — this defect only shows up as visible damage or looseness
Is it safe to keep driving?
All three spoiler recalls are safe-to-drive. None instructs you to stop driving or to park outside, and none is a do-not-drive order. The risk is not to you inside the Durango — it is to the driver behind you if the spoiler separates and lands in traffic. Braking, steering and occupant protection are not affected. Even so, do not put the inspection off, and be gentle with the liftgate in the meantime, since liftgate use is exactly what damages a misaligned spoiler.
What the free repair involves
Dealers inspect the rear spoiler and replace it if necessary, free of charge. Under the newest 2026 recall the repair goes further: dealers inspect and either replace or repair the spoiler and align the liftgate as needed. There is no software or over-the-air element here — it is a physical inspection and body repair, and you pay nothing.

Common questions
Why has my Durango been recalled for the spoiler three times?
Each recall covered the same misalignment defect but a wider group of model years — 2021, then 2021-2022, then 2021-2023. The newest one also adds liftgate alignment to the repair, which the earlier spoiler-only fixes did not include.
My spoiler looks fine. Do I still need the appointment?
Yes. The recall is about alignment with the roof, which causes damage gradually through normal liftgate use. A spoiler that looks intact today can still be misaligned, so let the dealer inspect it and align the liftgate at no cost.
What happens if the spoiler comes off while I am driving?
A detached spoiler becomes road debris. The notices describe the danger as being mainly to drivers behind you, who could crash avoiding or striking it. Inside the Durango you would likely notice nothing beyond the missing part.
