Ford diesel fuel system recalls: Super Duty pumps and filter leaks

3 NHTSA recalls · Ford · Fuel System, Diesel · model years 2020–2022 (we track 2018 and newer) · newest 2026-03-17

Ford's diesel fuel recalls all land on 6.7L Super Duty trucks. The oldest, from January 2022, covers 2021 F-250 through F-600 plus medium duty F-650 and F-750: a small void in the top-center of the underhood secondary fuel filter cap can progress to a crack and leak fuel. The other two are the same defect twice — biodiesel deposits forming on the high-pressure fuel pump's drivetrain roller components, which can lead to pump failure, on 2020-2022 Super Duty and 2021-2022 F-650 and F-750 trucks. Ford's December 2024 campaign addressed it with a software update, then a March 2026 recall repeated the fix for trucks repaired incorrectly under 24V957. The 2021 model year appears in all three.

Warning signs to watch for

Is it safe to keep driving?

None of the three diesel recalls orders owners to park the truck or stop driving, and Ford issued no park-outside warning even for the leaking fuel filter cap. The risks are still real. Treat any diesel smell, visible seepage around the underhood secondary fuel filter, or a wet spot under the truck as a reason to stop and call the dealer. For the two high-pressure pump recalls the failure mode is a sudden loss of engine power in traffic, so book the software update promptly rather than putting it off.

What the free repair involves

For the 2021 filter cap recall, dealers replace both the primary and secondary fuel filters. For the high-pressure pump recalls no hardware is replaced — dealers reprogram the powertrain control module, plus the transmission control module under the original December 2024 campaign. The March 2026 recall repeats the PCM update for trucks repaired incorrectly the first time. All of it is free.

Common questions

I already had recall 24V957 done. Do I need the 2026 repair too?

Yes, if your truck was repaired incorrectly under that campaign. Ford's March 2026 recall re-covers 2020-2022 Super Duty, 2021-2022 F-600 and 2022 F-750 trucks with another powertrain control module software update, free of charge, with owner letters mailed April 7, 2026.

Does running biodiesel cause the fuel pump problem?

Ford's notice says biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which could lead to failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. The remedy is a software update rather than a fuel restriction, so keep following the owner's manual on approved fuel.

What happens if the high-pressure pump fails while I'm driving?

The notices describe pump failure causing a sudden loss of engine power, which could leave you stranded in traffic and lead to a crash. That is why the free software update is worth scheduling soon, even though Ford does not tell owners to park the truck.
