Porsche brake recalls: booster, brake lines and hoses explained
Porsche's hydraulic brake recalls are few but varied, and the Taycan appears in three of the four. The 2020-2021 Taycan and 911 Carrera share a brake booster whose pressure input rod connection may be loose and could detach — the most severe problem in the set. A 2024 action covers 2020-2025 Taycans whose front brake hoses can develop cracks and leak brake fluid, and a 2023 recall covers 2020-2022 Taycans that display an incorrect worn-brake-pad warning indicator in the wrong color, failing a federal standard. The odd one out is the 2018 Panamera hybrid family — Turbo S Hybrid, 4 Hybrid, the Executive and Sport Turismo versions — whose front brake lines can corrode. Hardware faults dominate; only one is fixed with software.
Warning signs to watch for
- A brake pedal that feels loose, goes to the floor, or stops working entirely (2020-2021 911 Carrera and Taycan booster rod).
- Weaker front braking or longer stopping distances on the 2018 Panamera hybrids with corroding front brake lines.
- Brake fluid leaking from a cracked front brake hose on the Taycan, with reduced braking and longer stopping distances.
- A worn brake pad warning shown in the instrument cluster with the wrong indicator and the wrong color on 2020-2022 Taycans.
- On the hardware recalls the part can fail with little advance notice, so a VIN check is more reliable than waiting for a symptom.
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these four Porsche brake recalls carries a do-not-drive or park-outside instruction, so you may keep driving while you wait for parts. Severity still differs. The brake booster recall on 2020-2021 911 Carrera and Taycan models involves complete brake pedal failure, so make it your next appointment. With the corroded Panamera hybrid brake lines and the cracking Taycan front brake hoses, drive gently, leave extra stopping distance, and book the repair as soon as your dealer can take the car. The wrong pad warning display is the least urgent of the four.

Dealers repair or replace the brake booster on affected 911 Carrera and Taycan models, replace the corroded brake line and any damaged brake components on the Panamera hybrids, replace the front brake hoses on the Taycan, and update the instrument cluster software where the worn-pad warning displays incorrectly. My Taycan shows up in more than one of these brake recalls. Is that normal?
Yes. The Taycan appears in three of the four — the brake booster input rod, the cracking front brake hoses, and the incorrect worn-pad warning software. Each is a separate recall with its own repair, so check your VIN for all three.
Does the 2018 Panamera brake line recall cover non-hybrid Panameras?
The notice names hybrid versions only: Panamera 4 Hybrid, Panamera Turbo S Hybrid, the Executive variants and the Sport Turismo variants. If your Panamera is not a hybrid, it is not listed in this recall, but a VIN check confirms it.
Is the wrong brake pad warning worth a dealer visit?
Yes. Porsche is recalling it because the incorrect indicator and color can leave you driving on worn pads with reduced stopping power without realizing it. The fix is an instrument cluster software update, done free of charge at the dealer.
