Certain 2021-2022 Nissan Rogue and 2022 Frontier, Pathfinder and Titan rental vehicles have a problem with the dashboard infotainment system. If the SiriusXM satellite radio subscription is set to "Not Subscribed," the unit can restart on its own, and while that happens the backup camera stops working. Because of this, these vehicles do not meet the federal rear-visibility rule. Without a camera picture you can see less behind you when reversing, raising the risk of a crash.
A small part inside the automatic transmission, called the parking pawl, is what holds the truck still when you put it in Park. On these trucks it may not catch. If it does not, the truck can roll away on its own after you shift into Park and walk away, even though the shifter says P. Nissan says to use the parking brake every single time you park until the repair is done.
The bolts that hold the left-rear seat belt bracket to the body may not have been tightened enough at the factory. That bracket is the anchor point the belt pulls against. If it is loose, the bracket can break under the heavy load of a crash, and the belt would no longer hold the passenger in place. Nissan dealers will replace those bolts and fix any damaged threads in the seat frame at no cost.
Some 2022 Frontier Crew Cab Long Bed trucks left the factory without the tow hitch that was supposed to be installed. That hitch also helps protect the fuel tank. Without it, if another vehicle hits the truck from behind, a piece of the rear suspension can push into the fuel tank and tear it open. Leaking gasoline at a crash scene can catch fire. The truck does not meet the federal fuel system safety rule.
The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted so the rear view image no longer appears — and the system keeps that setting the next time you shift into reverse. That means the screen can stay blank when you back up and you cannot see what is behind the vehicle. Because of this, these vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility rule. A dealer will update the camera settings software for free.
These vehicles use a regular metal key. Over time, the weight of a heavy key ring, a rough road, or a hard bump can push the key out of the run position and back to accessory, which shuts the engine off while you are driving. A stall in moving traffic raises the risk of a crash. Dealers will check the ignition switch and replace it if it turns out to be one of the affected parts, free of charge.
