Nissan Frontier and Rogue backup camera may go blank
medium How serious is it? About this label
Nissan has not told owners to stop driving, but with no camera picture you are backing up blind, so back up slowly and check over your shoulder and in your mirrors until it is fixed.
What's wrong, in plain English
When you restart your Nissan, the screen in the dash can get stuck restarting over and over. While that is happening, the backup camera picture does not show up, so you cannot see what is behind you when you shift into reverse. Federal rules require a working rear camera view, so these trucks and SUVs do not meet that standard. The fix is new software for the screen, done at a dealer or sent to the vehicle wirelessly.
What you should do
2. Watch for the over-the-air software update, or call Nissan at 1-800-867-7669 (recall R22B8, R22C1, PC923/25) if you have questions.
3. If the update does not reach your vehicle, schedule the software update at a Nissan dealer — the repair is free.

- Summary
- Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2022 Titan, Titan XD, Frontier, and 2021-2022 Rogue vehicles. The in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system may continuously reboot when the vehicle is restarted, which can result in an inoperative rearview display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Safety risk
- An inoperative rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- The IVI software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 18, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R22B8, R22C1, and PC923/25. (over-the-air software update)
