Chevrolet Equinox front door windows may break dangerously
medium How serious is it? About this label
Moderate — the glass only becomes a danger if a window breaks, and the notice places no limit on driving, but the free glass replacement is worth scheduling soon.
What's wrong, in plain English
The driver's and front passenger's door windows on some 2018 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles may not have been heat-treated correctly at the factory. Car side windows are built to shatter into small, dull pieces if they break. Glass that was not treated properly can break into large, sharp chunks instead. That raises the chance of serious cuts if a window breaks in a crash, or if you or a rescuer has to break one to get out of the car.
What you should do
2. Call your Chevrolet dealer, or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and give them GM recall number 18136.
3. The dealer replaces both front door windows free of charge.
