Ford Transit mini-coach foldaway seats may come unlocked

NHTSA campaign 19V247000 · Reported 2019-03-28 · Cabot Coach Builders inc DBA Royale

medium How serious is it? About this label

In the event of a crash, if the seat back moves, the seat occupant has an increased risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Royale Limousine built these 2015-2018 mini-coaches on the Ford Transit and fitted them with Freedman fold-away seats that were themselves recalled earlier. Rotating the back seat cushion up from its stowed position may not lock it securely. If the vehicle is hit or stops suddenly, the cushion can move while someone is sitting on it. Royale is notifying owners, and its dealers will inspect the seat and repair it so it locks properly again.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm the vehicle is included. 2. Call Royale customer service at 1-800-544-5587 to schedule the seat inspection and repair. 3. Recall repairs are done at no cost to the owner — confirm there is no charge when you book, and keep passengers out of the affected seats meanwhile.
