Ram ProMaster engine cooling fan can overheat and burn

NHTSA campaign 19V818000 · Reported 2019-11-15 · Chrysler (FCA US LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

Very serious — this is a fire risk, so get the van in as soon as you can and do not ignore burning smells or overheating warnings.

What's wrong, in plain English

The fan that cools the engine can seize up and stop turning. When that happens the fan's motor keeps trying to run, gets very hot, and can catch fire. This affects vans with the 3.0-liter diesel or 3.6-liter gas engine and air conditioning. Chrysler mailed an early warning letter in December 2019 and the actual repair became available in July 2020. Dealers replace the whole engine cooling fan unit for free.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your ProMaster is affected.
2. Contact a Chrysler/Ram dealer, or call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 (recall VB2), to schedule the cooling fan replacement.
3. The new cooling fan module is installed free of charge.
