Sprinter manual gives wrong info on automatic parking feature
medium How serious is it? About this label
A van that rolls away can hurt someone, but this is a paperwork fix and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving — until you have the corrected pages, set the parking brake and confirm the van is in park before getting out.
What's wrong, in plain English
Nothing is broken on the van itself. The printed Operator's Manual describes the automatic park feature, called Auto-P, incorrectly. A driver who follows the manual might believe the van has put itself in park and is holding still when it has not. The van could then roll away or move on its own after the driver steps out. Dealers will hand out corrected pages describing how Auto-P really works, and owners should read them before relying on the feature.
What you should do
2. Contact a Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer, or DVUSA at 1-877-762-8267, and ask for recall VS3BAUTOP.
3. Pick up the corrected Auto-P description for your Operator's Manual — it is free.
