Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter swivel seat airbag wiring problem

NHTSA campaign 20V322000 · Reported 2020-06-03 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious but not a park-it recall — the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, though an airbag that fires unexpectedly or fails in a crash can injure people in the front seats, so get it inspected soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front seats in these vans can swivel. On some of them, the wiring that runs to the seats was routed the wrong way and can get pinched or damaged by the swivel seat frame. That wiring feeds the side airbag built into the seat. If the wiring is damaged, the airbag could go off on its own when there is no crash, or fail to go off when you actually need it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your van is included.
2. Call an authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer and ask for recall VS3DREHSIK, or reach Daimler Vans USA at 1-877-762-8267.
3. Have the dealer inspect and re-route the front seat wiring and add clips or ties — the repair is free.
