Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter vans: fan wiring fire risk
critical How serious is it? About this label
Serious: there is a fire risk, and the notice tells you to limit how you use the heater and air conditioning while you keep driving, so get this repaired promptly.
What's wrong, in plain English
The electrical circuit that runs the heating and air conditioning blower fan in these Sprinter vans may not be strong enough for the job. That can let the wiring for the fan get too hot, and overheated wiring can start a fire. Until the van is fixed, run the front blower only in manual mode while the engine is on, and stay off the maximum fan speed and the coldest and hottest temperature settings. Dealers move and replace the fuse and wiring free.
What you should do
2. Until the repair is done, use the front blower only in manual mode with the engine running, and avoid the highest fan speed and the lowest and highest temperature settings.
3. Contact your Sprinter dealer, or DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 (recall number 8297010), for the free fuse and wiring repair.
