Mercedes Sprinter fuel pump may leak fuel onto road

NHTSA campaign 20V453000 · Reported 2020-08-04 · Daimler Vans USA, LLC

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious: the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but leaking fuel on the roadway can cause a crash, so have the van checked promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Certain 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vans may have been built with an extra port on the fuel pump module left open instead of sealed. Fuel can seep out of that opening and spill onto the road. Besides losing gas, spilled fuel on the pavement is a hazard for you and for other drivers. A dealer checks for the extra nozzle and caps it off at no charge if your van has one.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your van is affected. 2. Call DVUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or your Sprinter dealer and reference recall VS3KRASTUF. 3. Have the fuel pump inspected and the open port closed — the repair is free.
