Mercedes Sprinter 3500 campers can lose stability control
medium How serious is it? About this label
If ESC becomes disabled, vehicle driving stability may be impacted under certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
On these Sprinter vans that were built out into campers or RVs, the electronic stability control system can stop working. Stability control is the feature that senses when the van is starting to slide or spin and automatically brakes individual wheels to help keep you on your intended path. The trouble traces back to a rear wheel speed sensor that feeds information to the system. Dealers will replace that sensor with a tougher version at no cost to you.
What you should do
2. Call a Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer to book the sensor replacement, or contact Daimler Vans USA at 1-877-762-8267 (recall NC3DREZAHA).
3. Have the new rear wheel speed sensor installed — the repair is free.
