What's wrong, in plain English

A part inside the braking system — a rotor attached to a shaft — was not welded correctly at the factory. The two pieces can come apart while you drive. If that happens, the power assist that makes the brake pedal easy to press is reduced, and the anti-lock brakes and stability control stop working. You would have to push much harder on the pedal, and the car could be harder to control in a hard stop or on a slippery road.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included in campaign 21V569000 (Volkswagen recall 47R1).
2. Call your Audi dealer to schedule the repair, or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 with questions.
3. Have the dealer replace the brake booster — the repair is free.

Summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 E-Tron Quattro and 2020-2021 Audi E-Tron Sportback Quattro vehicles. An improperly welded rotor and shaft may separate within the integrated brake system.
Safety risk
Separation of the rotor and shaft may cause a reduction in braking assistance and a loss of the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the brake booster, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 14, 2021. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 47R1.
