Infiniti Q50, Q60 and QX80 backup camera screen shuts off

NHTSA campaign 21V599000 · Reported 2021-08-02 · Nissan North America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

A rear-view camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

A software error can switch off the audio and video screen in the middle of the dashboard. When that screen is off, the backup camera picture does not appear after you shift into reverse, which federal rules require it to do. You lose your view of anything low or close behind the vehicle, such as a small child or a bicycle lying in the driveway. The fix is a free software update at the dealer; no parts need to be replaced.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Contact your Infiniti dealer, or Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 (recall R21A9).
3. Have the control unit software updated — the update is free.
