Why does my Infiniti backup camera screen go blank?
All five of these Infiniti recalls are the same kind of problem: a software error stops the rearview image from appearing when you shift into reverse, so the vehicle fails Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111. No hardware is broken. The 2019 recall swept in 2018-2019 Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 alongside a long list of Nissans. The 2021 recall covers 2021 Q50, Q60 and QX80, where the audio/video control unit screen deactivates. Two separate October 2024 recalls both hit the 2025 QX80 — one a blank screen, one a frozen image on vehicles with the Around View Monitor — and a November 2025 recall adds the 2025 QX80 again with Murano and Armada. The QX80 is by far the most repeated model.
Warning signs to watch for
- The screen goes completely blank when you shift into reverse
- The rear image freezes instead of updating as you back up (Around View Monitor vehicles)
- The whole audio/video control unit screen shuts off
- The camera fails after starting the vehicle, with the fault appearing at startup in the newest recall
- No warning light is described — you only find out when you put it in reverse
Is it safe to keep driving?
Every one of these five recalls says the vehicle is safe to keep driving, and none tells owners to stop driving or park outside. The risk is entirely behind you: without the rear image you can back into a person or object you cannot see, which is why each vehicle is listed as failing FMVSS 111. Until the software is updated, check your mirrors, turn and look over your shoulder, and back up slowly — especially in driveways and parking lots where children may be.
What the free repair involves
Every remedy here is a software fix, and all are free of charge. Dealers update the back-up camera settings software on the 2018-2019 vehicles, the control unit software on the 2021 cars, and the Around View Monitor or in-vehicle infotainment software on the 2025 models. Two of the newer recalls can be delivered as an over-the-air update instead of a dealer visit.

Why is my 2025 QX80 in more than one backup camera recall?
Two separate October 2024 recalls cover the 2025 QX80 — one for a blank screen in reverse and one for a frozen image on vehicles with the Around View Monitor — and a November 2025 recall covers it again. Each needs its own remedy.
Can I get this fixed without going to the dealer?
Sometimes. The 2024 Rogue/QX80 recall and the November 2025 recall can be handled by an over-the-air infotainment software update or by a dealer. The 2019, 2021 and Around View Monitor recalls are dealer reprogramming only.
Is it legal to drive with a backup camera that doesn't work?
These notices state the vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which is why they are recalled. None of the notices tells owners to stop driving, so use mirrors and shoulder checks until the free update is done.
