Genesis GV60 rear driveshafts may break, losing power

NHTSA campaign 23V300000 · Reported 2023-04-26 · Hyundai Motor America

high How serious is it? About this label

Suddenly losing drive power raises the risk of a crash, especially at highway speed; the notice does not say to stop driving, but schedule the free repair promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these all-wheel-drive electric SUVs, the rear driveshafts — the spinning shafts that send power from the motor to the rear wheels — can crack and break apart. If one fails, the vehicle can lose the power that drives it forward, which could leave you slowing down or stopped without warning, including in traffic. A dealer will replace both the left and right rear driveshafts with new parts.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your GV60 is included. 2. Call your Genesis dealer or Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall number 014G) to book the repair. 3. Have both rear driveshafts replaced — the parts and labor are free.
