Hyundai is recalling certain 2024-2025 Genesis GV60 and 2025 GV80 vehicles. When you shift into reverse, the backup camera picture may shut off instead of showing on the screen. Without that picture, you cannot see what is directly behind the vehicle while you are backing up. Dealers will update the camera software at no cost, and owner notification letters were mailed September 11, 2024.
Your vehicle has a part called the Integrated Charging Control Unit, which keeps the small 12-volt battery charged while you drive. Hyundai found this unit can be damaged and stop charging that battery. If that happens, the car can lose power to the wheels while you are driving. A dealer will check the unit and its fuse, replace them if needed, and update the software. Hyundai later issued a newer fix, so even cars already repaired need to go back.
The shaft that sends power to the rear wheels of these electric vehicles may not have been heat-treated correctly when it was made. A shaft made this way can break while the car is under load, and the car then loses drive power. Losing power in traffic, on a hill, or while merging onto a highway can lead to a crash. Hyundai mailed owner letters on March 29, 2024. A dealer will replace the rear inner driveshaft at no cost.
On some 2023 GV60s, the front passenger seat belt has a faulty locking part inside the belt reel. Because of it, the belt may not pull out far enough to reach the buckle, or it may not latch at all. If the belt does not work properly, it cannot hold the passenger in place during a crash. Dealers will inspect the front passenger belt and replace it at no cost if it is affected.
On these all-wheel-drive electric SUVs, the rear driveshafts — the spinning shafts that send power from the motor to the rear wheels — can crack and break apart. If one fails, the vehicle can lose the power that drives it forward, which could leave you slowing down or stopped without warning, including in traffic. A dealer will replace both the left and right rear driveshafts with new parts.
Front seat belts have a small device that tightens the belt the instant a crash happens. In these vehicles that device can burst apart when it goes off, throwing metal pieces into the cabin that could hit and injure the driver or front passenger. The dealer will fit a cap over the part to hold it together, free of charge. GV60 owners got a warning letter first and will get a second letter when their repair is ready. Cars fixed under the earlier 2021 recall need this repair too.
