A belt that will not fasten or extend may not restrain the front passenger in a crash, which is serious; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but avoid seating anyone in the front passenger seat if that belt is not working until it is repaired.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2023 GV60s, the front passenger seat belt has a faulty locking part inside the belt reel. Because of it, the belt may not pull out far enough to reach the buckle, or it may not latch at all. If the belt does not work properly, it cannot hold the passenger in place during a crash. Dealers will inspect the front passenger belt and replace it at no cost if it is affected.

Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023 Genesis GV60 vehicles. The automatic locking retractor for the front passenger-side seat belt may prohibit the seat belt from fastening and/or extending properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
Safety risk: A seat belt that fails to fasten or extend properly may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the front passenger-side seat belt, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 14, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 015G.
