Nissan brake fluid leaks and caliper failures: which models are recalled?

Nissan's hydraulic brake recalls fall into two families. The larger one is the ABS actuator pump that leaks brake fluid onto its internal circuit board, a fire hazard covering 2015-2018 Murano, 2016-2018 Maxima, 2017-2019 Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60; the 2019 campaign re-covered cars already handled under the 2018 recall, so some owners were called back twice. The second family is brake calipers. The 2021 Rogue was recalled twice for rear calipers missing an internal bushing, letting the O-ring shift and fluid leak, and 2025 Murano, Pathfinder and QX60 front calipers may have reduced strength and break.
Warning signs to watch for
- ABS warning light that stays on more than 10 seconds after startup (Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, QX60)
- Brake pedal that feels soft or sinks toward the floor
- Brake warning light coming on
- Weaker braking than normal, or signs of brake fluid loss
- The 2025 front caliper defect may break with no warning beforehand
Is it safe to keep driving?
On the two ABS actuator recalls Nissan says you can keep driving normally, but if the ABS warning light stays on more than about 10 seconds after startup, stop driving and park the vehicle outdoors, away from other cars and buildings, because of the fire risk. The 2021 Rogue caliper recalls and the 2025 front caliper recall carry no park-it order, but stop driving and call the dealer if the brake pedal feels soft or sinking or a brake warning light comes on.
What the free repair involves
Dealers inspect the ABS actuator serial number and replace the actuator where needed; under the 2019 recall the actuator is replaced outright. For the Rogue, dealers inspect and replace the rear calipers, and the 2023 recall replaces both rear calipers. On the 2025 vehicles dealers inspect and replace the front caliper assemblies as necessary. All work is free of charge.

My Pathfinder was already inspected under the 2018 recall — do I need to come back?
Yes. The 2019 recall specifically covers vehicles that were unrepaired or were inspected and judged not to need repair under recall 18V-603. Under the newer recall the ABS actuator is replaced outright rather than only inspected.
