Volvo VN trucks may not return to idle

NHTSA campaign 23V793000 · Reported 2023-11-22 · Volvo Trucks North America

high How serious is it? About this label

An engine that does not return to idle quickly enough can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some 2023-2024 Volvo VN trucks, the sensor that tells the engine where the gas pedal is can come unplugged. If that happens, the engine is supposed to drop back to idle within two seconds, but it may not. The engine could keep pulling while you are trying to slow down, which makes the truck hard to control. This breaks the federal rule for accelerator controls. Volvo will put in a new throttle pedal and update the software.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your truck is affected.
2. Contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall RVXX2313.
3. Schedule the throttle pedal replacement and software update — both are free.
