Are Mercedes-Benz roof panels and Sprinter body parts coming loose?
Two problems repeat here. The bonded front roof panel between the windshield and panoramic sunroof turns up twice — a 2021 recall and a December 2023 recall covering 2014-2020 C-Class, CLA, GLA, S-Class, GLC and GLE models, with the GLC350e caught in both. The rest is Sprinter assembly work: 2019-2021 vans missing longitudinal frame member reinforcement fasteners, 2020 vans with a loosening propeller shaft bearing crossmember, 2019-2023 vans whose partition wall may be missing bolts, 2020 vans with loose front door hinge screws, and 2019 vans with a misinstalled abutting wedge in the front door jambs. Two more cover GLB tailgate side spoilers that can detach and 2023-2025 GLC C-pillar crash padding.
Warning signs to watch for
- A front roof panel that looks lifted or separated where it meets the windshield ahead of the panoramic sunroof — the notices say it may not have been bonded correctly.
- A side spoiler on a GLB tailgate that sits loose, or is already gone.
- Reduced vehicle control on a 2020 Sprinter, which the notice ties to the propeller shaft bearing and crossmember connection loosening.
- A front door on a 2019 Sprinter that does not open easily after a severe frontal impact.
- Most of these give no warning in everyday driving — missing frame fasteners, missing partition wall bolts, loose hinge screws and the GLC C-pillar padding matter mainly in a crash.
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these nine recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside instruction. The roof panel and GLB spoiler recalls let you keep driving, but a panel that detaches at speed becomes a hazard for traffic behind you, so book those promptly. The Sprinter frame fastener and propeller shaft crossmember recalls affect stability and control — and a damaged fuel tank could cause a fire — so schedule quickly. The partition wall bolts, door hinge screws, abutting wedge and GLC C-pillar padding matter in a crash, so normal driving while you arrange the appointment is reasonable.
What the free repair involves
Dealers remove and replace the bonded front roof panel using the approved primer, cleaner and adhesive; inspect and repair the Sprinter longitudinal frame members; inspect and replace the propeller shaft crossmember; inspect and secure the partition wall; tighten front door hinge screws; check the abutting wedge installation on both front doors; inspect and replace GLB side spoilers; and modify the GLC roof lining and C-pillar trim. All free of charge.

Common questions
Two roof panel recalls list my GLC350e — do I need both repairs?
Both the 2021 and December 2023 campaigns address the front roof panel bonding between the windshield and panoramic sunroof. Check your VIN with a dealer; if an earlier repair already replaced the panel, they can confirm whether the later recall still applies to your car.
Does the Sprinter frame fastener recall matter more if I carry passengers?
Yes. The notice says the missing reinforcement fasteners reduce vehicle stability and decrease the structural integrity of the third-row seats. Schedule the free inspection promptly, particularly if anyone regularly rides in the third row of your 2019-2021 van.
Is my 2023-2025 GLC unsafe to drive because of the C-pillar recall?
No. Mercedes says GLC models with a panoramic sunroof drive normally. The concern is limited to certain crashes where a rear occupant's head contacts the C-pillar, which may not absorb enough energy. Dealers modify the roof lining and C-pillar trim free.
