Serious, because the screen can black out with no warning while you are moving; the car still drives, but get the software update promptly and pull over safely if the display goes dark.

What's wrong, in plain English

In these Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs, the infotainment computer can restart by itself while you are driving. When it does, the digital dashboard in front of the driver goes completely dark. You lose your speedometer and any warning lights, so you cannot tell how fast you are going or whether something else on the car needs attention. The dealer loads updated infotainment software at no cost to fix it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (VINs for this recall are searchable starting May 8, 2026).
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer, or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 (recall 2026050004), for the free software update.
3. Watch the letter mailed June 29, 2026, and schedule the appointment as soon as you can.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2024-2026 AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE, and GLC vehicles. The infotainment control unit may reset while the vehicle is in motion and cause the instrument panel display to go blank.
Safety risk
An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer and warning lights, increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the infotainment control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 29, 2026. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2026050004. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning May 8, 2026.
