In these Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs, the infotainment computer can restart by itself while you are driving. When it does, the digital dashboard in front of the driver goes completely dark. You lose your speedometer and any warning lights, so you cannot tell how fast you are going or whether something else on the car needs attention. The dealer loads updated infotainment software at no cost to fix it.
On these Mercedes GLC models, the headlights may have been aimed too high from the factory. Headlights pointed up throw glare into the eyes of drivers coming the other way, making it harder for them to see the road. That means the vehicles don't meet the federal rule for lights and reflectors. A dealer will check how the headlights are aimed and lower them if needed, at no charge to the owner.
The fuel pump pushes gasoline from the tank to the engine. On these Mercedes-Benz models the pump can shut down on its own. When that happens the engine stops getting fuel and the vehicle loses drive power. Mercedes-Benz dealers replace the fuel pump free of charge. The recall covers a wide range of models — C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS, SL, GT, GLC, GLE, GLS and G-Class — so check your own VIN rather than guessing from the model name. These Mercedes vehicles have a built-in emergency call system that connects the people inside to an emergency call center. A software fault on the SIM card in the car's communication unit can stop the car from connecting to the mobile network, and that shuts the emergency call feature down. You would not know until you needed it, and help could be delayed. The car otherwise drives normally. The fix is a software update, sent to the car over the air or done by a dealer.
Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2021 GLC 300, GLC 300 4Matic, AMG GLC 43 4Matic, AMG GLC 63 4Matic and AMG GLC 63 S 4Matic vehicles. The electrical connection that powers the headlights may not be sealed tightly against water. If moisture gets into that connection, a headlight can stop working. That leaves you with less light on dark roads and makes your vehicle harder for other drivers to see and judge. Dealers will inspect and replace the headlight sealing plugs.
Certain Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG models have a software problem in the MBUX multimedia system. The center display can stay black or restart itself after you start the car. When that happens, the backup camera picture may not appear correctly when you shift into reverse, so you cannot see what is behind you on the screen. Because of this, the vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility rule. A software update fixes it at no charge.
A small electrical switch that tells the car where the front seat is sitting may have a bad connection inside. If that connection fails, the driver and passenger airbags, and the seat belt parts that soften the belt's pull on your chest, may not work the way they should in a crash. The car drives normally, so you would have no way to notice the fault until a crash happens. Dealers replace the seat position switches at no charge.

Emergency crews could then be sent to the wrong place, delaying help for you or your passengers. The car itself drives normally; only the emergency call feature is affected.
