Buying a used 2020 RAM 1500? Check these 14 recalls first

14 NHTSA recalls · 623 owner complaints on file

The 2020 recalls skew toward occupant restraints rather than fire: no critical-rated items, but eight high-severity ones covering airbags that may shut off, not inflate or not be connected, side curtain inflators that can rupture, front seat belts that may not restrain, and second-row belt anchors installed improperly. A floormat that can trap the accelerator and a diesel fuel pump failure round it out. 623 unverified NHTSA complaints lead with electrical and engine, and 24 crashes.

Before you buy

  1. Get the 17-character VIN from the seller and run it at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows which recalls are still unrepaired on that exact car.
  2. Confirm every airbag and seat-belt recall is closed — several separate ones apply to this year.
  3. Check the airbag light cycles normally at startup, and that the floormats are the correct retained ones.
  4. If it's the diesel, ask whether the fuel pump recall was completed or the pump replaced.
  5. Open recalls are repaired free at any RAM dealer, whoever owns the car — an open recall is a to-do item, not a bill.
