Volkswagen label recalls: wrong tire, VIN and weight rating stickers
Nothing in this group is mechanically broken — all three recalls are about labels that were wrong or missing, and each is a federal compliance failure rather than a component defect. The 2019 Tiguan long wheelbase carries a tire information label with inaccurate tire dimensions and inflation pressures. Two 2018 Golf GTI vehicles — just two cars — have a Federal Certification label whose printed VIN may not match the vehicle. And 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport models fitted with accessory side steps never received the reduced Gross Vehicle Weight Rating label reflecting that added weight. The Atlas family is the widest-reaching of the three, and in every case the remedy is a replacement sticker.

Is it safe to keep driving?
All three are safe to keep driving. None of the notices restricts driving, and nothing on the vehicle is failing — the risk is indirect. With the wrong tire label, setting pressures to the printed figures could affect handling and raise crash risk, so rely on the corrected label once it is installed. On Atlas models with side steps, the missing GVWR label means you don't know the reduced limit, so avoid heavy loads until it is added. The mismatched VIN label on the two Golf GTIs poses no mechanical danger.

Each remedy is a label. Dealers install a corrected tire information label on the 2019 Tiguan, a correct Federal Certification label on the two 2018 Golf GTIs, and the missing reduced GVWR label on Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models with side steps. Is a label recall really worth a trip to the dealer?
Yes. These are federal compliance recalls, and the labels carry information you actually rely on — correct tire sizes and pressures, your vehicle's real VIN, and the weight rating with side steps fitted. The replacement label costs you nothing.
What tire pressures should I use on my 2019 Tiguan until the label is fixed?
The notice says the label's tire dimension and inflation pressure specifications are inaccurate, so don't trust that placard. Ask your dealer or Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 for the correct figures; the corrected label shows them once installed.
Only two Golf GTIs were recalled — how do I know if mine is one?
