Volvo seat belt recalls: anchor cables, truck anchors and missing chimes

3 NHTSA recalls · Volvo · Seat Belts · model years 2018–2026 (we track 2018 and newer) · newest 2026-03-11

These three Volvo seat belt recalls split between the car and truck sides of the company. The largest is Volvo Cars' front seat belt anchor cable recall, which sweeps in a long list of older models — 2007-2016 S80, 2008-2016 V70 and XC70, 2011-2018 S60 and V60, 2009-2016 XC60, plus S60 Cross Country, V60 Cross Country, S60L and S80L — where the flexible steel cable connecting the seat belt to the front seat is the failure point. Volvo Trucks' recall covers 2019-2026 VAH trucks whose passenger seat belt anchor may fail because the floor is inadequately reinforced, a FMVSS 210 anchorage noncompliance. The newest, on 2025-2026 EX30 and 2026 EX30CC, is a belt reminder chime that never sounds.

Warning signs to watch for

Is it safe to keep driving?

None of these three recalls tells owners to stop driving or to park outside. All are crash-protection faults, meaning the danger only shows up in a collision, not while you are driving normally. Volvo does not restrict driving on the car anchor cable recall — keep wearing your belt and book the free repair soon. The VAH passenger anchor is serious but not an emergency; it affects the person in that seat in a crash. The EX30 chime is a low-severity compliance issue, so simply buckle up every trip without waiting for the reminder.

What the free repair involves

Each recall has its own parts fix. On the affected Volvo cars, dealers replace the seat belt anchor cable for both front seats. On 2019-2026 VAH trucks, dealers install a new weld nut and washer to correct the passenger anchor. On the EX30 and EX30CC, dealers replace the terminals at the audio module connector so the warning chime works. All repairs are free of charge.

Common questions

My car is older than 2018 — am I still covered?

Likely yes. The anchor cable recall reaches back through 2007-2016 S80, 2008-2016 V70 and XC70, 2011-2018 S60 and V60, 2009-2016 XC60 and the related Cross Country, S60L and S80L models. Check your VIN with Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.

Is the EX30 chime problem worth a dealer visit?

Yes, though it is rated low. The audible warning does not activate as required under FMVSS 208, so an unbelted occupant never gets reminded. Dealers replace the terminals at the audio module connector free of charge; buckle up every trip meanwhile.

Can passengers ride in my VAH truck before the repair?

The notice does not restrict driving or occupancy. The passenger seat belt anchor may fail in a crash because the floor is inadequately reinforced, so the risk only appears in a collision. Have the weld nut and washer installed as soon as you can.

A recall applies only to specific vehicles. Check your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
