Are Volvo seats and head restraints secure in a crash?
These three Volvo recalls all concern how seating hardware holds in a crash, but they cover two different parts of the company. Volvo Trucks is recalling 2019-2024 VN and VHD vehicles whose passenger side bench seat may be inadequately attached to the floor, a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 207 and 210. On the car side, the 2025 EX90 recall covers second-row free-standing seats whose bolts may not be tightened properly, and the newest recall covers 2025-2026 EX30 and 2026 EX30CC vehicles whose head restraint cushion may detach during a crash. Fasteners and attachment points are the common thread; the newer electric models, EX90 and EX30, account for two of the three.
Warning signs to watch for
- The notices for these recalls do not describe any warning sign an owner would notice.
Can you keep driving? What the notices say
None of these three notices tells owners to stop driving, and none tells owners to park outside. What the notices do say concerns crash protection: the Volvo Trucks notice says the bench seat attachment points may fail and allow the seat to shift, the EX90 notice says an improperly tightened seat may not adequately restrain the occupant during a crash, and the EX30 notice says a detached head restraint cushion can increase the risk of injury during a crash. Each notice lists a dealer repair at no charge.
What the free repair involves
Each recall has its own repair. On 2019-2024 VN and VHD vehicles, dealers replace the weld nut with two nuts and a washer. On the 2025 EX90, dealers inspect and tighten the second-row seat bolts as necessary. On 2025-2026 EX30 and 2026 EX30CC vehicles, dealers apply an adhesive to reinforce the head cushion attachment. All three notices say the work is free of charge.

Common questions
Can I just tighten the EX90 second-row seat bolts myself?
The notice says dealers inspect and tighten the bolts as necessary, free of charge, and that owner notification letters were mailed January 10, 2025. It does not describe any owner action other than having the recall repair performed.
Should anyone avoid sitting in the affected seat until it is repaired?
The notices do not tell owners to leave seats empty or to stop driving. They state the risk — a bench seat that may shift, a seat that may not restrain an occupant, a head restraint cushion that may detach in a crash — and list the dealer repair.
My car is an EX30, not an EX30CC — is it included?
The notice covers certain 2025-2026 EX30 and 2026 EX30CC vehicles, and Volvo Car's recall number is R10396. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 30, 2026, and the notice points owners to vehicle identification numbers.
