Volvo lighting recalls: headlights, markers and turn signals that fail
Five of these six recalls are Volvo Trucks campaigns on the New VN platform, and most are Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 lighting compliance failures on 2025-2027 VNL (4) and 2026-2027 VNR (4) trucks. Center roof marker lights that fail to illuminate appear twice, in separate campaigns covering 2026 and 2026-2027 trucks. The rest cover trailer lights that stay dark when towing because of an improperly manufactured body control module, turn signals that may not function properly, and automatic high beams that fail to switch down to low beam. The one passenger-vehicle recall is the 2025 EX90, where a software error in the low power controller can close the headlight shutters over the high and low beams while you are driving.
Warning signs to watch for
- EX90: headlights go dark while driving as the shutters close over the high and low beams
- Trailer lights that do not illuminate at all when a trailer is hooked up
- Center roof marker lights on the cab that stay dark
- High beams that stay on and never dim automatically for oncoming traffic
- Turn signals that do not flash, or do not work the way they should
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these six recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside instruction. The most serious is the EX90 shutter fault, because losing both beams at night is a real crash risk — Volvo does not restrict driving, but avoid night driving until the software is updated. The marker light, trailer light and turn signal recalls are visibility and signaling problems rather than breakdown risks; the trucks can be driven, though you are harder for others to see or read after dark. With the automatic high beam fault, switch between high and low beam yourself.
What the free repair involves
Repairs split between software and parts. The EX90's low power controller software is updated manually at the dealer. Volvo Trucks updates the turn signal indicator software, and for the automatic high beam fault sends an over-the-air update that disables the AHB feature as an interim action. Dealers replace the trailer body input/output module for the towing fault, and replace the center roof marker light on both marker light recalls. All repairs are free of charge.

Common questions
Should I avoid driving my EX90 at night?
Volvo does not tell EX90 owners to stop driving, but the shutters can close over both beams while you are driving. Losing your headlights at night is serious, so limit night driving where you can until the low power controller software is updated.
Why are there two center roof marker light recalls?
They are separate campaigns: one covers certain 2026 New VN trucks, the other certain 2026-2027 VNL (4) and VNR (4) trucks. Both involve center roof marker lights failing to illuminate under FMVSS 108, and both are fixed by replacing the light.
What happens to my automatic high beams after the update?
The interim over-the-air update disables the automatic high beam feature, because the system may not switch down to low beam as intended. You keep full manual control and switch between high and low beam yourself.
