On certain 2025 Nissan Kicks and Frontier vehicles, the big screen in the middle of the dash can go completely blank when you shift into reverse. That means no backup camera picture, so you cannot see what is directly behind you while backing up. These vehicles do not meet the federal rule for rear visibility. The fix is a free software update for the display at the dealer. Until it is fixed, rely on your mirrors and look over your shoulder when backing up.
The certification sticker on the car shows the wrong maximum weight the vehicle and its axles are allowed to carry. Going by those numbers, you could load the car more heavily than it is built to handle. On some SR models with the optional 19-inch wheel package, the same label also lists the wrong wheel size, which can lead to putting the wrong air pressure in the tires. A dealer puts on corrected labels.
On some 2025 Nissan Kicks, the reminder that is supposed to tell you the car is not in Park may not come on. If you shut the engine off while the car is still in Drive or another gear, you may get no warning at all. Some 2021 Nissan Versa and Kicks vehicles have a faulty electrical connection in the sensor that tells the power steering system how hard you are turning the wheel. The connection can cut in and out, which shuts off the power steering help. The car can still be steered, but the wheel becomes much harder to turn, especially at low speeds such as parking or pulling out. Dealers will check a code on the steering column and replace the column if needed.
On certain 2021 Nissan Versa and Kicks vehicles, an electrical connection inside the power steering sensor can cut out now and then. That sensor tells the car how hard you are turning the wheel, and if the connection drops, the power assist shuts off. The steering still works, but the wheel suddenly becomes much harder to turn, especially at low speeds like parking or pulling out of a driveway.
The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted so the rear view image no longer appears — and the system keeps that setting the next time you shift into reverse. That means the screen can stay blank when you back up and you cannot see what is behind the vehicle. Because of this, these vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility rule. A dealer will update the camera settings software for free.
